Guyana’s national elections, slated to be announced by President Bharrat Jagdeo, are not likely to come before Nov. 14, according to Dr Roger Luncheon, head of the presidential secretariat.

That was the date by which the country’s electoral commission had declared it would be ready to host elections.

Luncheon said the electoral commission is still pressing ahead with preparations for the production and distribution of identification cards.

“The Elections Assistance Bureau has been the first locally identified entity to be approved by GECOM as a local observer for the elections,” he said.

Seven third parties have been invited to observe Guyana’s elections, and two, OECS and CARICOM, have responded favourably to the invitation.
