In the Bahamas, Art Gets a Boost

By the Caribbean Journal staff

Bahamian art is getting a lift from a new programme from the country’s Public Treasury Department, which announced a plan to recognise and encourage young Bahamian artists and engender a renewed commitment to art in the Bahamas.

The Public Treasury Art Programme is set to transform the common areas of its new Nassau office into a space where emerging and established artists can display their work.

The programme launches Sep. 26 with an exhibition called “Bahama Mama,” which will feature a celebration of Bahamian women. Artists were asked to produce works which look at the historical, cultural and social aspects of Bahamian women.
