Barbados’ government is preparing to introduce a new Sports Development Act aimed at hastening the development of the sporting sector on the island, including its motor racing industry, according to Minister of Sports Stephen Lashley.
Lashley was addressing the 2011 Williams Digicel International Race Meet in Barbados’ Bushy Park
“My ministry is currently researching the proposed legislation, with a view to initiating early dialogue with the sporting community,” he said. “It is expected that this legislation will streamline the various incentives offered to the sector and simplify the process by which the various organisations may access these incentives.”
Lashley urged Barbadians to “re-initalise” their creativity and help contribute to the country’s sporting legacy.
On the same day, Barbados’ Ministry of Housing announced that it would soon complete the draft of an agreement to lease the Busy Park facility to the Barbados Motoring Federation.
“This facility at Bushy Park offers an excellent prototype for multi-usage where we can combine motor racing of various types with cultural programmes including Crop Over and other forms of entertainment,” Lashley said.
The government is looking to position Bushy Park as a Formula Three racing facility, he said.
