Barbados to Swear In New Chief Justice

Barbados will have a new Chief Justice next Thursday, when 57-year-old Marston Gibson, a lawyer in New York, will take the oath of office at Government House.

Gibson was appointed by Barbados’ Governor General on the recommendation of Prime Minister Freundel Stuart.

Gibson has spent much of his 25-year legal career in the US, most recently as a Court Attorney Referee in the Supreme Court of the State of New York in Nassau County.

Gibson, a Rhodes Scholar, has degrees from the University of the West Indies and Oxford University.

He has held bar membership in several Caribbean jurisdictions, including Barbados, Antigua and Barbuda and Trinidad.
