Trinidad arrested 117 people between 6PM yesterday and 8AM this morning, including 56 gang members, and 48 people arrested for drug crimes, Attorney General Anand Ramlogan announced today.

That followed the announcement of 22 arrests in Port of Spain yesterday.

The ongoing State of Emergency, which began Sunday following a total of 11 murders in one day across the county, has led to wide-ranging powers and the installation of a nighttime curfew.

The Defence Force, which is authorized to make arrests under the Emergency Proclamation, carried out 26 independent patrols in 12 hours last night, Ramlogan said.

Ramlogan defended the imposition of the curfew, which he said was lawful, valid and proper.
