Hurricane Irene has left Haiti relatively unscathed, with the storm losing its capacity to threaten Haiti.

There was only isolated damage from flooding, and no serious emergencies in the country, which is still working to recover from the catastrophic earthquake of January 2010.

Haitian authorities have also lifted a “red alert” for the country, and the UN’s Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs has shut down its emergency join operation centre.

The UN’s mission in Haiti, MINUSTAH, had 12,000 peacekeepers on emergency standby in the case rescue operations were needed.
