Jamaica Eyes Hub for Private Jets

Jamaica is looking to position the new Ian Fleming International Airport in St Mary as a regional hub for private jets, according to Transport Minister Mike Henry.

Henry was joined at the airport yesterday by NetJets CEO Bill Noe, who said that while the company was familiar with the country’s intentional airports in Montego Bay and Kingston, it was relatively unfamiliar with Ian Fleming’s operations.

“We’ve had one operation into Ian Fleming over the past year,” Noe said. “Most of our activities are into Montego Bay and Kingston. So we want to come and look at it and explore the possibilities.”

Henry said the NetJets tour of the airport was an exploratory one, but that he was seeking to interest Netjets to look at Ian Fleming as an operational point.

“The idea is to see what the opportunities are, which fit into the training of people in the whole aeronautical industry and ties in the whole interconnected, multi-modal plan which we have in place,” he said.
