Trinidad Minister: “Gas Not Running Out”

By the Caribbean Journal staff

While Trinidad’s natural gas reserves have declined, the country is not running out of gas, according to Minister of Energy and Energy Affairs Kevin Ramnarine. “I want to make it very clear that gas is not running out,” he said Wednesday at the presentation ceremony of the 2010 Ryder Scott Gas Audit at Port-of-Spain’s Hyatt Regency. The audit showed the country’s total proven gas reserves at about 13,460 billion cubic feet as of December 2010, compared to 19,674 billion cubic feet in 2000. Earlier this summer, British Petroleum announced it was doubling its offshore exploration blocks. BP’s operations provide for more than half of Trinidad’s natural gas output.
