Jamaica, UAE Sign Airlift Agreement

The Jamaican government has signed an air services agreement with the United Arab Emirates, according to Information Minister Daryl Vaz.

The deal was signed in the context of the country’s Open Skies policy, which was previously approved by the cabinet.

“The agreement entitles the designated airline[s] of both countries the right to exercise in any type of service full fifth freedom traffic rights to or from any intermediate or beyond points without any restriction,” he said.

The agreement also facilitates code sharing between designated stakeholder airlines, and encourages fair play among all air interests, while discouraging discrimination and abuse of dominant positions.”

The Open Skies agreement is expected to expand linkages between Jamaica and other nations in order to facilitate investment and tourism flows.
