UN’s Le Roy: Haiti Peacekeeping Mission Prevented “Total Chaos”

Alain Le Roy, the outgoing head of the United Nations peacekeeping forces, said that before the earthquake in Haiti, UN peacekeepers had contributed to five years of stability, and prevented a descent into “total chaos” after the earthquake. “There are so many achievements,” he said of the UN’s global peacekeeping forces. “Our peacekeepers are working in extremely difficult conditions in places where nobody wants to go and they are in some cases risking their lives.”
