Antiguan Named Chief Justice in Belize

By: - July 30th, 2011

Caribbean jurist Justice Kenneth Andrew Charles Benjamin, a dual Guyanese and Antiguan citizen, has been named Belize’s Chief Justice. He will be following Acting Chief Justice Samuel Awich, who has filled the position since Dr Abdulai Conteh was retired after turning 65. Conteh is now a judge in the Bahamas. “[Benjamin’s] vast experience has witnessed his dedication as a jurist from the time of his graduation from the Hugh Wooding Law School in 1977 to present — thirty-three years ago,” Attorney General B.Q. Pitts said in a press release earlier this week. Benjamin, who has served as presiding judge in St Lucia’s High Court Criminal Division, will take up his post on September 15. [Belize Amandala]
