BP Doubles Trinidad Oil Exploration

By the Caribbean Journal staff

British Petroleum said it had been awarded a pair of deepwater oil exploration blocks off the Trinidad coast. The two blocks are off of Trinidad’s eastern coast. BP’s Trinidad operations account for more than half of the country’s natural gas output and 12 percent of BP’s global oil and gas production. “BP has a long history and major business in Trinidad and Tobago, and we are keen to participate in the next phase of exploring the country’s resources,” said BP Group Chief Executive Bob Dudley. He said the firm was pleased to “unlock Trinidad’s deepwater potential” in a “long-term commitment” to the country. BP has been operating in Trinidad since the 1960s. The government awards double the acreage held by BP-controlled companies there.
