Martelly Honours Singer Wyclef Jean

Haitian President Michel Martelly has made Haitian singer and roving ambassador Wyclef Jean a Grand Officer of the National Order of Honor and Merit. Jean, whose own bid for the presidency was denied by the courts after ruling he was not sufficiently “resident” in the country to be eligible to run, received the honor in a ceremony at the presidential palace. Jean became an ambassador for the country in 2007. “I have great joy in solemnly honoring a son of this earth who has assumed with force, conviction and humanity, his Haitian quality,” Martelly said.
