Green Building Council Heads to Cayman

The Sailfish Estate in Sunrise Landing on Grand Cayman is the first LEED-certified private residential home built outside of the United States. LEED is the certification system of the United States Green Buildings Council, which rates the energy efficiency and sustainability of buildings. Developer GreenTech is the only company in the Caribbean to have one of its projects accepted into LEED’s International Program, which is currently a pilot programme. Two other companies, one in Saudi Arabia and another in China, have been accepted into the program. “The Sailfish Estate will set a new standard for energy efficiency and environmentally friendly design and construction here in Cayman and throughout the Caribbean,” said James Whittaker, managing director of GreenTech.
