Jamaica Names New Attorney General

By: - July 8th, 2011

After some delay, Jamaican Prime Minister has named attorney Ransford Braham the country’s new attorney general. Braham was a partner at law firm Livingston, Alexander and Levy’s litigation department, where his practice included work in the Court of Appeal and the London-based Privy Council. The delay in his appointment did not go without criticism, with the opposition People’s National Party releasing several statements condemning what it saw as “gross dereliction” regarding the vacancy. Following the Manatt Commission of Enquiry’s report, Jamaica separated the posts of attorney general and Justice Minister; previously, the same person had filled both positions. [Jamaica-Gleaner]
