Former Jamaican Prime Minister P.J. Patterson called for CARICOM’s Heads of Government to maintain support for Haiti and the priorities and processes of new President Michel Martelly. Patterson, who was presenting his report on Haiti-related developments since the Inter-Sessional Meeting of the Conference in Grenada in March, highlighted the completion of presidential and legislative elections in the earthquake-ravaged country. Patterson pointed to some achievements, such as implementing duty-free entry for some Haitian products into other CARICOM markets. Patterson’s remarks followed an announcement by Martelly that he would meet with the CARICOM Representative before the end of July.
