Trinidad Opposition to PM: Fire Warner

The opposition People’s National Movement in Trinidad and leader Keith Rowley have called for Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar to fire Trinidad Minister Jack Warner, who has been embroiled in a controversy involving international football body FIFA. Rowley had asked the Trinidad Commissioner of Police, Dwayne Gibbs, to bring an investigation into Warner’s activities. Warner, who was the president of CONCACAF and FIFA vice president, resigned from FIFA on Monday. FIFA had brought an investigation into Warner and other football officials for alleged bribes offered at a meeting in Trinidad in May. While Warner’s resignation meant that the investigation ceased, the report contained findings by FIFA of sufficient evidence that the bribes occurred. [Globe and Mail]
