Could Gardening Help with Food Prices?

Caribbean governments are encouraging citizens to plant their own gardens, in an effort to mitigate the impact of soaring food prices. Beatrice Buchanan, who lives in Kingston, Jamiaca, said her new garden is helping her to combat rising costs of food. “Believe me, if I didn’t’ start up this garden I’d be sruggling a lot more now with the market prices going up, up up,” she said. According to Florita Kentish, a coordinator for the U.N.’s Food and Agriculture Organization in Barbados, leaders in the region are “very concerned and seeking solutions as the electorate in many countries are on edge and agitated.” [AP via Washington Post]
