Jamaica intends to enter the multibillion-dollar medical tourism market, although at this time it lacks the required facilities to do so. One investor, however, the Hospiten Group, is considering building a 200-bed hospital in Montego Bay, which would cater to private clients and medical tourists. According to a diagnostic report by CTA Economic and Export Analysts, Ltd., of the United Kingdom, improvements would require an injection of $20 million, along with 30 new medical staff in the country. “We believe Jamaica can accrue significant benefit from the development of this sector” said Reginald Budhan, permanent secretary in the Ministry of Industry, Investment and Commerce.
