Trinidad Minister in Row over Award of Government Contract

Sen. Mary King

Following allegations published over the weekend that Trinidad and Tobago Sen. Mary King participated in the award of a $100,000 contract to a company in which her family had an interest, pressure has mounted on King from both her own party and the opposition. The country’s Sport Minister, Anil Roberts, called for his colleague to resign “immediately” at a news conference called yesterday. King, who is the head of the Trinidad & Tobago chapter of Transparency International, a global anti-corruption organization, is the Minister of Planning, Economic and Social Restructuring and Gender Affairs. The contract involved development of a web site for the Ministry. [Trinidad Guardian]
