Bahamas Signs Deal on $48.5M Sports Centre Renovation

The Bahamian government signed a $48.5 million contract with two local companies for what is dubbed as the Queen Elizabeth Sports Centre Redevelopment Project. The deal is part of the country’s broader strategy to capitalize on so-called “sports tourism” something Bahamas Minister of Tourism Vincent Vanderpool-Wallace told Caribbean Journal last month. “It should not be lost on any of us that enhanced sporting facilities hold considerable potential for other and additional benefits to our country, namely, the growth in sports tourism,” said Prime Minister Hubert Ingraham. The project is separate from the $30 million new national stadium, which was a gift from the Chinese government. [The Nassau Guardian]
