New York Lawyer Contributes to Save Belize’s Mesoamerican Reef
Sir Thomas Moore, a lawyer in New York and longtime supporter of ocean renewal, donated $100,000 to help completely end all forms of trawling in Belize. Moore made the contribution as part of the Christie’s Green Auction last week. The aim is to protect the Mesoamerican coral reef, which off the coast of Belize, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and part of the largest reef system in the western hemisphere. Guests at the auction raised a total of $350,000 for Oceana, the world’s largest international ocean conservation and advocacy organization, to work to fight trawling in Belize. The group recently persuaded the Belizean legislature to outlaw all forms of trawling.
