Martelly: I Am President for All Haitians

After taking nearly 70 percent of the votes following preliminary counting, Haiti’s President-Elect, former musician Michel Martelly, pledged reconciliation and change for the long-troubled nation. “I am president for all Haitians,” he told supporters at his first post-election news conference. “We are going to work together for change.” Martelly will face stiff challenges in governing the country, with a parliament dominated by members of President Rene Preval, along with the return of former president Jean-Bertrand Aristide. We talked to the New York Times’ Damien Cave earlier this week about the challenges facing Haiti.
