Words Fly After Bahamian Opposition Walks out of Parliament

The opposition walked out of the Bahamian House of Assembly on Thursday night, and now some public accusations have been made concerning Prime Minister Hubert Ingraham. The Progressive Liberal Party (PLP) walked out of the House during a budget debate. While MP Philip Brave Davis, who represents Cat Island, Rum Cay and San Salvador, was trying to speak, the dispute began. The ruling Free National Movement (FNM) was quick to criticize the move. “With their usual sense of entitlement, and unable to get their own way, the PLP continues to pull stunts rather than act like a responsible official opposition,” the party said in a statement. In a statement released Friday, Davis described what he called Ingraham’s “dictatorial arrogance.”
