A Major Hotel Opening in Kingston, Jamaica

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - November 26, 2015

Kingston has its first new-build hotel in decades.

The Jamaican capital is now home to the newly-debuted Courtyard by Marriott Kingston.

“Courtyard by Marriott has become a very popular brand in the Caribbean and is expanding rapidly,” said Tim Sheldon, President of the Caribbean & Latin America at Marriott International, Inc. “It offers excellent value in the mid-tier market that is currently underserved. The hotels adapt well to the lifestyle needs of both its domestic and international guests.”

The property has 129 rooms and is one of the greenest new hotel properties in the region.

The hotel is seeking LEED silver certification, with energy efficient design that makes it 30 percent more energy efficient than a standard building, according to Marriott.

That includes the use of solar panels that will produce 5 percent of its energy on site.

The Courtyard includes a casual-dining restaurant called Centro, along with meeting space, a fitness center and a swimming pool.
