A new hotel in the Caribbean will soon have the Grand Hyatt name.

The Grand Hyatt Playa del Carmen is slated to open on the Riviera Maya on June 15, Hyatt Hotels said in a release this week.

The 314-room “urban beach hotel” is located on Playa del Carmen’s Mamitas Beach.

“As the brand celebrates its 35th anniversary this year, we are thrilled to grow our Grand Hyatt brand presence in the region with the opening of Grand Hyatt Playa del Carmen Resort,” said Sandra Cordova Micek, Senior Vice President, Global Brands, Hyatt. “Hyatt is committed to being the most preferred hospitality brand by opening in key locations where our guests are traveling, and we have openings planned in Mexico, the Bahamas, Brazil and Colombia.”

The Bahamas property is slated to open at the Baha Mar project in Nassau, although it’s still not clear when the project will debut after a series of delays.

The Playa del Carmen property had previously been announced as Hyatt Playa del Carmen; it has undergone an “extraordinary transformation,” according to the company.
