Caribbean Style: Diane von Furstenberg Visits Guadeloupe

Is Guadeloupe the new St Barth?

That may be premature (although a report Sunday questioned the continued “exclusivity” of the Caribbean’s capital of chic) , but the French Caribbean archipelago drew one noted traveler this weekend — fashion icon Diane von Furstenburg.

She even snapped a photo (above), tweeting “Sunset in Guadeloupe! Love Diane,” on her official Instagram handle.

The boat pictured is her husband Barry Diller’s EOS Yacht, one of the world’s largest.

While Guadeloupe has long been a favourite Caribbean haunt for nationals from mainland France, the French department is working to bring tourists from the United States, after long being off the US travel radar.

Von Furstenberg didn’t say why she was in the Guadeloupe Islands, although she was born on Dec. 31 so could be around for a birthday celebration.

Furstenberg, one of the world’s best-known designers, is particularly famous for popularizing the wrap dress – long a popular fashion in the West Indies.
