THE NOBLE SPIRIT is increasingly becoming the global spirit.

While the Caribbean remains the world’s rum centre (and will be indefinitely), as we’ve shown, the love of and passion for rum extend far beyond the region’s borders.

And in Miami, the United States’ unofficial rum capital, this has never been more true.

From new distilleries like Miami Club Rum to terrific bars like the Rumbar at the Ritz-Carlton Key Biscayne (our global rum bar of the year for 2012), the city is a haven for the rum tourist.

One of Miami’s top rum sites is Sugarcane Raw Bar Grill, the brainchild of Samba Brands Management (known for the world-famous Sushisamba), which opened in the hip Midtown area in 2010.

The tapas-style food is extremely good, but, staying true to its name, the eatery is really about rum, boasting among the city’s largest selections, with about 45 rums on the menu — everything from Trinidad’s Scarlet Ibis to Black Tot (its priciest, at $135 a glass).

That’s accompanied by some inspired rum cocktails, like a rum punch with sage and Velvet Falernum liqueur or a Beet Mojito, which uses beet-infused rum.

All in all, Sugarcane is a must visit for any rum enthusiast in Miami.
