Jamaica’s government is planning to privatize management at the Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston by 2014, Transport Minister Omar Davies announced.

The move will be implemented through a public-private partnership agreement, Davies said. Jamaica’s Cabinet has already appointed an “Enterprise Team” to oversee the process.

The World Bank’s International Finance Corporation will be assisting with the project in areas such as due diligence and facilitating the bidding process.

Jamaica’s 2004 Capital Development Master Plan will guide the process. The plan is currently being updated.

The project will also extend and widen the runway at the airport .

Jamaica privatized the Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay in 2003.
