Haiti President Michel Martelly has returned to the country following trips to Japan and South Florida.

The Japan trip, which was billed as the first visit to the country by a sitting Haitian president, included a meeting with Emperor Akihito.

Martelly’s visit to South Florida included a Diaspora Forum and a speech to the Haitian community briefing them on the pace of reconstruction in Haiti. (See more in Caribbean Journal’s coverage here)

The President said Monday that his recent travels abroad, which have included visits to Cuba and the European Union, were an effort to introduce Haiti to the international community in a way in which it had not been presented before.
